REPORT
1. Master Planning and Design
Council undertook a master planning exercise for the Noosa North Shore Campground in 2016.
Several options were developed for refurbishing and upgrading the facilities based around a
number of desired outcomes, including (amongst others) the need to improve some long-term
dilapidated environmental elements, respond to changing camping and caravanning customer
expectations and demographics, adjust property boundaries via State Government approval to
capture actual campground space usage, and provide a long-term strategy for the provision and
management of water and wastewater infrastructure that better satisfies customer demand and
environmental constraints for a site located within the Great Sandy National Park.
At the conclusion of this master planning process a preferred option for campground
refurbishment works was selected that recommended a specific mixture of asset renewal and the
provision of new and upgraded infrastructure, based on ensuring a required return on investment
for the business activity. In 2017 a detailed design process using specialist consultants
commenced to capture the outcomes of the preferred option, and this concluded in July 2018.
2. Lot Boundary Revocation and Realignment of Southern Boundary
A Material Change of Use (MCU) was approved by Council in August 2017 in order to allow the
process of negotiating the adjustment of the property boundaries to progress with the State
Government. The intent of these negotiations is to formally move the southern boundary of the
site south into national park land to best reflect the historical camping area, and adjust the
eastern boundary westwards to remove the majority of sensitive coastal dune land from camping
and allow revegetation work in these areas.
