1.0 INTRODUCTION
Native Foresters has been commissioned by Noosa Council to conduct a flora and fauna survey
and habitat assessment of a section of vegetation situated east of the Cleanaway Depot at 561
Eumundi Noosa Road, Doonan within Lot 77 SP298776.

This report assesses the fauna and flora which are present; the ecological condition of the subject
site, and the presence of breeding habitat for native fauna. Recommendations relating to
mitigating the potential impacts on fauna and flora species of conservation significance are made
where considered relevant to proposed works.

1.1 Objectives of the report

The objectives of the report are as follows:

• To provide the results of the Flora Survey undertaken in compliance with the requirements of
      the Flora Survey Guidelines – Protected Plants (Nature Conservation Act 1992);
▪ To provide the results of the Breeding Places Assessment undertaken in compliance with the
DES Species Management Program Requirements for tampering with a protected animal
breeding place, the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and Nature Conservation (Wildlife
      Management) Regulation 2006.
▪ To comment on the potential impacts of proposed works on native flora and fauna, including
State and/or Commonwealth listed species and their breeding habitat.
▪ To undertake a Code Assessment of works against the Noosa Plan (2020) – Biodiversity,
      Waterways and Wetland Code.

1.2 Site description

The subject site is a Melaleuca wetland (approximately 0.9 hectares) that is situated on Lot 77
SP298776, northwest of the Noosa Council Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre and east of
the Cleanaway depot. The subject site adjoins a drainage line with remnant vegetation to the
north, and existing landfill infrastructure to the east and south consisting of access tracks, mown
grass areas, a constructed sediment basin and a vegetated pond.

An additional 100m buffer area was surveyed for EVNT-listed flora species and is referred to as
the total clearing impact area. The 100 metre buffer was also contained within Lot 77 SP298776
and the total clearing impact area for the site is approximately 9 hectares. Refer to Figure 1 for a
Survey area map.

Underlying geology has been described by the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and
Energy (DNRME) and Sattler and Williams (1999) with two land zones occurring in Lot 77
SP298776 as follows:

• Land Zone 3: Quaternary alluvial systems, including floodplains, terraces, levees, alluvial
fans, swamps, channels, closed depressions and fine textured paleo-estuarine deposits. This
land zone covers the central section through to the northern boundary of survey area.
• Land Zone 5: Tertiary-early Quaternary extensive, uniform near level or gently undulating
plains with sandy or loamy soils. This land zone covers a thin band around the east, south
and west boundaries of the survey area.
