Appendix I - Bushfire Hazard Report
8
METHODOLOGY
The intent of this report is to provide an informed assessment of the potential bushfire hazard within
the site and surrounding areas in relation to the proposed development. Accordingly, S5
Environmental’s approach involved both quantitative and qualitative assessments of the site. The
quantitative assessments included a review of the vegetation communities, slope and aspect. The
qualitative assessments were based upon the known bushfire behaviour of the subject land. S5
Environmental’s Senior and Graduate Ecologists conducted a review of the site and surroundings
lands, vegetation communities, slope angles and aspects on Thursday, 12th of October, 2017.
A measured walkover of the entire site was achieved with a particular focus on the areas of the site
mapped within a Bushfire Prone Area. Vegetation communities were inspected in order to assess
their structure, dominance, associations and connectivity to adjoining bushland. The vegetation
community structure, fuel loads and potential hazards were also assessed and documented.
S5 Environmental utilised the elevations and contours indicated in the Noosa Shire Council online
mapping system in order to complete the quantitative assessment.
Aerial photography was utilised to discern connectivity of the site to bushland areas in the locality.
The State Planning Policy, Interactive Mapping Bushfire Hazard Overlay (attached at Appendix A)
was reviewed prior to the field assessment in order to inform potential bushfire hazard areas. As
shown in Figure 4, below, an extract of the SPP Mapping, the majority of site is mapped as either
“Very High Potential Bushfire Intensity”, “High Potential Bushfire Intensity” (red shading), “Medium
Potential Bushfire Intensity” (yellow shading) or “Potential Impact Buffer” (hatched areas).
