Summary
In considering all options obtained, Option 2 – to remove the bridge and replace with steel frame
and recycled products bridge provides the best whole of life outcomes should Council consider
proceeding with the replacement of the Gumtree Drive pedestrian bridge. However, it is difficult to
support the replacement of the bridge on cost alone. The bridge’s location in a semi-rural
environment, with no significant linkages to transport networks or larger communities and the
perception of a low use asset are factors to be considered in assessing this project against higher
use facilities that provide greater community benefit.
The removal of the existing bridge structure should be completed by the end of the 2018/2019
financial year to minimise the safety concerns and risks to the community. Funding for the removal
of the bridge will be allocated through next budget review process.
