SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 11 DECEMBER 2018

Cash and Debt

The graph below shows Council’s cash and debt holdings as June 2018 compared to the previous
3 years. Both cash and debt levels have increased and decreased respectively over the last 3
years, stabilising between 2017 and 2018. Council’s net financial liabilities ratio of -12.6% improved
from the previous year -11.6% and remains well within the Queensland government benchmark of
not greater than 60%.

Given ongoing uncertainty moving forward regarding potential federal and state funding levels for
local government, and climate change implications on Council operations and infrastructure
requirements it is prudent that capacity is maintained within cash and debt balances to manage
any unexpected (or expected once known) shocks.
