RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Community Development Coordinator to the Infrastructure &
Services Committee Meeting dated 22 July 2014 on the outcomes of the Expression of Interest
process for Tait Duke Cottage and:
A. Enter into an Agreement to Lease the Tait Duke Cottage to the Rotary Club of Noosa
Heads Queensland Incorporated and United Synergies Ltd for a period up to ten years;
B. Remove and relocate the Tait Duke Cottage from its temporary location in Wallace Park to
vacant land on 14-18 Earl Street, Tewantin; and
C. Agree to allocate $80,000 funding from the Heritage Levy for site surveys, transportation
reconnection of services and restumping of the Cottage.
REPORT
Council has a legal agreement via the signed Deed of Gift to progress the location and
community use of Tait Duke Cottage in the Tewantin area. The Cottage has been temporarily
located on Wallace Park since 2009. Council and the Tait family would like to see the Cottage
used for the intended purpose for which it was donated to Council ie community purposes for the
benefit of the Tewantin community.
Although there is no critical date for occupancy of the building, the longer the building is
temporarily sited the more quickly it is likely to deteriorate and be unavailable for use by the
Tewantin community.
An Expression of Interest (EOI) process was recently undertaken by Council to ascertain if any
community groups were interested in using the Cottage.
There was one joint submission received from the Rotary Club of Noosa Heads Queensland
Incorporated and United Synergies Limited.
