  POLICY BACKGROUND

The ‘Noosa Lifestyle’ is of critical importance to the Noosa community and Noosa Council. There is
a strong focus on a laid-back environment without big city symbols. It is about being connected to
the local landscape, enjoying a relaxed way of living and having sustainable transport options that
  support our way of life.
If our lifestyle is to be protected into the future, then the ultimate aim would be for a culture to be
developed where the Noosa community can be considered to be ‘freed from car dependency’.
Council’s transport vision for the Noosa Shire is one that means:
e for residents of and visitors to villages and urban communities in Noosa, there will be limited
     need to use a car
e walking, cycling and public transport are the preferred means of moving around the coastal area
¢ community transport and ride share services are the preferred means of moving around the
hinterland, where walking and cycling distances are too great
e bus and train are the preferred method of travel to and from Brisbane
e delivery services and non-transport solutions such as high speed internet reduce the need for
     individual travel
e the wider community and not just locals share in this vision

Council’s transport mission for the Noosa Shire is:
To encourage alternative transport usage and reduce
                             dependence on private cars

  COUNCIL POLICY

  Transport Principles
Council commits to its transport mission by embedding the Transport Principles outlined below into
all Council transport and transport related planning, infrastructure and decision making.
The principles below have been developed to ensure there is corporate alignment with the
Council’s transport mission in order to realise Council’s transport vision.
