Attached to the e-mail Further concerns regarding prosed development - Phil Dauphin 28.02.2023.
This approach of ensuring all trees are replaced is the way to maintain our environment and our Biosphere status for the future, and is compliant with the spirit and intent of Noosa Council’s Environment Strategy. Koalas were re-classified as an Endangered species in February 2022 and saving the species from extinction is largely incumbent on all levels of government acting accordingly. There is no definition of the minimum size of the replacement trees. Planting small saplings in a relatively confined area to meet the replacement requirements does not consider the potential overcrowding and the associated thinning that will occur in 3-5 years’ time, nor the 5 – 10 years it can take for these trees to become habitat or feed trees. It is suggested that, along with a minimum size being set, that there should be a general review to see where the replacement trees could be planted around the golf course. Because a particular area is not currently considered as habitat, or for transit, is no reason for not planting replacement trees for the koalas or black cockatoos. We should be encouraging our wildlife to occupy and/or use wider areas of the available land, rather than continually reducing the potential through ill-considered developments and the associated reduction in habitat.
