EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Manager Waste and Environmental Health to the
Infrastructure & Services Committee meeting dated Tuesday 26 May 2015 and award
Contract 1415T003 Sale of Recovered Metals and Batteries to Sims Group Australia
Holdings Ltd in accordance with tendered prices as detailed in the tender submission for an
initial contract period of 2 years and the exclusive right to extend the contract for two one
year extensions.

REPORT
Scrap metals and lead acid batteries are segregated and stockpiled at the Eumundi Rd
Resource Recovery Facility and at Rural Transfer Stations. This valuable resource is
recycled and generates revenue to offset some of the costs incurred by Council in its
resource recovery activities.

The current contractor is Sims Group Australia Holdings Ltd. Due to the pending expiry of
the current contract and the value of a future contract, a tender was called in compliance
with Council’s procurement policy for the future sale of recovered metals and lead acid
batteries.

Commercial in Confidence

The tendered prices are regarded as ‘commercial in confidence’ due to the competitive
nature of the recycling business and have not been included in this report. Prices can be
made available to Councillors, if required.

Term of Contract

The initial term of the contract is for a period of 2 years. Council has the exclusive right at its
discretion to extend the contract for one or two periods, each period being up to 12 months.
