RFI - Attachment G - Acid Sulfate Soils Investigation
Page 2 of 8 Figure 1: Overview of the site, viewing north with Bore 1 in foreground 3. Regional Geology and Acid Sulfate Soil Conditions Reference to the Geological Survey of Queensland’s 1:100,000 series digital geological maps indicate the site is located on the boundary between Quaternary aged floodplain alluvium typically comprising “clay, silt, sand, gravel” and Late Triassic to Early Jurassic aged Tiaro Coal Measures typically comprising “Lithofeldspathic labile and sublabile to quartzose sandstone, siltstone, shale, coal, ferruginous oolite marker”. The alluvium is expected to be underlain by the older Tiaro Coal Measures. The natural subsurface conditions encountered typically comprised silty sand overlying sandy and silty clays, inferred likely to be alluvial soils which is broadly consistent with the above described geology. Reference to the Department of Natural Resources and Mines 1:100,000 Redcliffe to Teewah Acid Sulfate Soils Map 2 indicates that the site is located in an area of “Land <5m AHD with low probability of ASS occurrence”. The presence or otherwise of ASS was assessed through laboratory testing. The results of laboratory testing are discussed further in Sections 6 and 7.2.2 of this report.
