3.1.1 Regulated Vegetation and Regional Ecosystem mapping

The Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (DNRME) presents the
Regulated Vegetation Management Mapping (RVMM) as gazetted under the Vegetation
Management Act (1999) (VMA).

Analysis of RVMM shows that the potential Impact Area to the east of the Noosa Landfill
contains mapped Regulated Vegetation, including one Endangered ecosystem and three
Least concern ecosystems as shown in Figure 3. The Regional Ecosystems, their
ecosystem description and conservation status are listed in Table 4 below.

TABLE 4: Regional Ecosystems mapped over survey area

 RE VMA status Biodiversity Description
                                    status
12.3.13 Least No concern at Closed heathland on seasonally waterlogged
concern present alluvial plains usually near coast
12.3.5 Least No concern at Melaleuca quinquenervia open forest on coastal
                 concern present alluvium

                                                        Cainozoic and Mesozoic sediments

3.1.2 Essential Habitat designation

Essential Habitat is a vegetation ecotype that is considered by DES (Department of
Environment and Science) to form potential habitat for a species that is listed as
Endangered, Vulnerable, Rare or Near Threatened under Schedules 2-5 of the Nature
Conservation (Wildlife) Regulation (2006). Essential Habitat mapping is provided in
conjunction with Regulated Vegetation Management mapping (DNRME, 2019) as gazetted
under the VMA (1999).

The vegetation in the Potential Impact Area is designated as Essential Habitat for three
listed amphibians, one listed bird and one listed mammal as shown in Table 5.
