Attachment 7C - Flora and Fauna Survey Assessment_Noosa Landfill - Revision 3
Native Foresters Interim impervious cover will be installed over all cells initially, followed by permanent capping. Interim impervious cover over the new cells will consist of 300mm of clay with 100mm of top soil and grass cover. Final capping will occur over a 10 year period. Levels for both cells have been set to enable Cell 2.4 to tie into existing Cell 2.1 leachate and groundwater collection system. Grading of Cell 2.3 does not allow for a gravity connection to the existing leachate management system. Leachate from Cell 2.3 will be pumped to the existing leachate management system. However, the groundwater seepage drains from Cell 2.3 will connect via gravity into groundwater drainage system. Both proposed cells require the provision of an access road and stormwater management, including rock chute drains resulting in substantial earthworks. The access track is proposed to be 8 metres wide (14 metre carriageway). The access will be located between the eastern extent of the cells and the pegged extent of vegetation clearing line. During site filling operations, Cell 2.4 will drain to a sediment basin to the north of the cell. Cell 2.3 will drain to a sediment basin to the south of the cell. The construction of clean water diversion drain is also proposed to the south of Cell 2.3. In total, earthworks associated with the access road and stormwater management are expected to require approximately 12,000m3 of additional fill, which can be sourced from excavation of the proposed cells. Current, surface water runoff flows to the east/north-east. Some of this surface flow is directed north from the southern end of the landfill into a constructed channel before flowing north-east into the remnant bushland areas. Future proposed surface water flows will be directed north and south along the landfill boundary before discharging into the remnant bushland areas. Clearing for the new southern stormwater discharge area will result in the clearing of up to 6,500 m2 of vegetation. Construction of Cell 2.4 is estimated to take less than six months to construct. It is expected that construction of Cell 2.3 will take around nine months depending on the volume of earthworks undertaken as a result of day cover excavations. However, it is foreseeable, since Cell 2.3 is a large cell, it may be constructed in (up to) three phases. Around four to six months is allowed for each construction phase. A map showing the location of proposed works onsite in relation to existing vegetation types occurring is shown in Appendix E.
