Ecological Assessment Report v2 NCES Ref: J000618 Lot 4 RP36729 – 111 Lake Weyba Drive, Noosaville 5.2 Fauna 5.2.1 Impacts The proposed allotments have been located within VC2 in areas with limited habitat for fauna species hence the impacts to fauna species are expected to be low. The impacts to fauna species primarily relate to the following: • Removal of a native and non-native trees within the development footprint to accommodate roads, allotments, building envelopes and infrastructure; • Injury or death during vegetation clearing; • Site intensification which has the potential to increase long term impacts to fauna associated with reduced nocturnal habitat/foraging suitability via introduction of artificial lighting of external buildings environs; and • Removal of hollow bearing trees. It is noted that civil bulk earthworks plans had not been progressed at the time of writing hence the assessment of impacts to in-situ vegetation is considered incomplete. 5.2.2 Mitigation Measures The impact of the proposed clearing to fauna is proposed to be mitigated/minimised by: • Locating the majority of the proposed development in existing cleared areas and areas of modified vegetation anticipated to host limited fauna utilisation/occupancy; • Registering the VC1 areas in Lot 12 under a legally binding conservation covenant to restrict clearing exemptions from being enacted and to preserve this habitat in perpetuity; and • Preparation of a Fauna Management Plan to guide the protection of fauna during construction activities. Note - where tree hollows are proposed to be removed, they should be removed and relocated onto the forest floor in suitable habitat areas within the western portion of the site. In addition, each removed hollow will be offset by installation of 1 nest box onto a suitable tree/s in the covenant area; • The VC1 in the west of Lot 12 will be protected by an environmental covenant and ecologically restored by way the implementation of a bushland rehabilitation plan. • The presence of a suitably licensed and experienced fauna spotter catcher on site during clearing. © 2021 24
