INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 11 NOVEMBER 2014
Quarterly summary performance sees the NLC net operating position $7,660 in front of YTD
projections. Actual revenue is $26,345 behind budget projections however expenditure is
$33,564 under projections.
The NLC has four revenue streams: program operations, the group fitness program, café/retail
operations and general operations.
Program operations: Revenue for the Jump Bunch Program is behind by $5,568. Attendance
numbers for this program have been considerably low this quarter, with revenue decreasing by
43% compared to the same period in the last financial year. A marketing strategy for the
program is currently being developed in an effort to increase numbers to the program.
Group Fitness program revenue is behind by $16,708, predominantly due to profiling forecasts of
the program. With the recent review and subsequent changes to the program implemented on 1
August, adjustments have been forwarded in the quarterly budget review.
Café/Retail operations are behind by $7,105. Average café sales are down by approx. $200 per
week. With Jump Bunch attendances also being low for this quarter, this has reflected on café
sales. Café prices have subsequently been increased from October.
General Operations is ahead of budget, this is due to an increase in facility bookings.
The majority of the budget variation in expenses can be seen in the area of Materials and
Services with a saving of $33,000. Materials accounts for a $10,000 saving as $12,000 was
included in the budget as an approved initiative for the purchase of table tennis equipment.
Some of this equipment was funded and purchased from 2013/14 budget, with the remaining
items to be purchased in Quarter 3 when Noosa Table Tennis have fully relocated. Savings also
occurred in the Building and Facilities Maintenance area of $14,000, due to the delay in
scheduling routine Building and Facilities maintenance.
2. Customers
There have been 18,269 recorded visits to the Centre for the quarter, however as attendances
have been difficult to accurately obtain due to the configuration of the NLC reception area, this
figure is only approximate.
Attendance figures for in-house operated Netball and Badminton sessions have increased by
12% in this quarter compared to the same period in 2013.
Attendances for Volleyball have also increased by 20% compared to 2013 figures.
Facility usage has increased by 40% this quarter. This is due to an increase in Meeting room
and Stadium bookings.
Group Fitness Class numbers have reduced slightly this quarter although the yoga classes which
are now provided by a separate entity, have increased slightly. At this stage, this is not
surprising or concerning with the recent changes to the program effective from 1 August. These
classes will continue to be closely monitored.
