In terms of the access form and function on Gibson Road, as presented in Section 7 of the original traffic
report, the proposed access driveway satisfies appropriate traffic engineering design requirements. The key
design requirements being:
• Design (AS2890.1 requires a 6-9m wide driveway) - the access driveway crossover is 8.5m wide for
left-in and left-out turning movements only
• Location (AS 2890.1 requires 6m separation from intersections) - the access is located
approximately 17m from The Cockleshell intersection and 35 from the Skipper Place roundabout
intersection
The proposed Gibson Road access driveway is in accordance with appropriate traffic engineering guidelines
established in Australian Standards and is therefore considered suitable.
With regards to the proposed bus bay, whilst Sunshine Coast Regional Council has identified the Gibson
Road frontage area as the location of a bus bay, there are no detailed plans and timing for the
implementation of such a bus bay. With further planning, it is not considered unreasonable to locate and
design the bus bay with the development access along the Gibson Road section west of the roundabout
intersection with Skipper Place.
Item 7 - Road Reserve Truncations
Provide a revised plan that indicates:
(a) A verge width in accordance with Council's Planning Scheme Policy 5 - Engineering Design
Standards - Roads, Drainage and Earthworks (4.5 metres minimum) from the existing kerb and
channel in Skipper Place.
(b) A truncation of the boundaries at the intersection of Skipper Place and Gibson Road in accordance
with Council's Planning Scheme Policy 5 - Engineering Design Standards - Roads, Drainage and
Earthworks section 3.13 (g).
Response
The proposed development plan does not provide any building structures within the required verge width
(4.5m) and corner truncation.
Item 8 - Internal Queuing Provision
Provide comment regarding the available queue spaces at the entrances to the site and achieving
compliance with ASMZS2890.1:2004 section 3.4.
