Photo 3. The current Noosa Trail Network utilises a number of different trail surfaces.

Much of the current Noosa Trail Network signage needs replacement because it is faded and also
does not meet current Australian standards regarding difficulty rating systems. The current Noosa
Trail sign design manual is to be updated to meet current standards.
Each of the Noosa Trail sections are numbered and named. This is being reviewed and discussions
have been held with the Kabi Kabi Traditional Owners about the possibility of using indigenous
names for each section of the network. Once the broader shire-wide trail concept is finalised, further
discussions with the Kabi Kabi Traditional Owners can be progressed.
5. Branding & promotion
One of the recommendations of the Noosa Trail Masterplan is to review branding and develop a
strategic marketing plan for the trail. This will help support local economies that supply goods and
services to trail uses and other visitors.
Tourism Noosa promotes Noosa through the ‘Enter the Biosphere’ campaign and the Noosa
Biosphere® Trail concept aligns with this initiative. Secondly, Tourism Noosa has developed a
‘Village Map’ to guide residents and visitors to local businesses. Accommodation, dining, events and
other village offerings is a significant part of the trail experience.

In other areas, both internationally and nationally, tourism organisations and tour operators offer trail
packages that include a suite of outdoor experiences, accommodation, food and shuttle services. A
broader Noosa Biosphere® Trail concept will help to support the packaging of these tourism
experiences, in turn supporting local business.

An example of a local trail package is the popular 3-Day Great Noosa Country Trail Walk event in
October which runs from Lake Macdonald to Pomona. Services that support the event include tour
guides, accommodation services and luggage shuttles. In discussion with Tourism Noosa, broader
trail packages could cater for budget travellers (walking and camping) up to premium offers (5 star
accommodation, shuttle services, dining/cooking experiences). Accommodation choices could
include camping, RV parks, hotels, motels, farm-stay and other short term accommodation services.
