PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 10 AUGUST 2021

Based on feedback from the stakeholder group a shire-wide Noosa Biosphere® Trail Concept Map
(see Map 1 next page) has been developed based on the following principles:
• The core trail facilitates access to the Noosa Biosphere® key iconic attractions and
     experiences
• The trail connects the hinterland to the coast
• The majority of the trails utilise existing fire trails, recreation trails and road reserves (both
     made and unmade)
• Trail heads are located in town villages, so trail users have direct access to services such as
dining, accommodation, parks, toilet facilities, markets and short loop trails
• A ‘core’ Shire-wide trail provides for dual use or multi-use activities (horse-riding, mountain
biking, walking, running). Specialist activities branch off the core trail (e.g. mountain bike
circuits, horse-riding circuits, canoeing, mountain summit walks, National Park walks etc)
• To maximise user experience the majority of the core trail will be on natural ground surface
(dirt trail), however in more developed areas towards the coast or within town villages it may
use existing pavements (i.e. integration with the Noosa Walking & Cycling Network).
• Where the trail network utilises Council or Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service (QPWS) fire
trails, the trail will be kept to a fire trail standard.
• Where there is limited opportunity to utilise either natural ground surface or the Walking and
Cycling Network, there is opportunity to provide private vehicle shuttle services to connect
users to other sections of the core trail
