Davis Rd Cootharaba DA Planning Report

Candidate D provided a more
appropriate option in terms of
achieving NBN’s coverage objectives.
For these reasons Candidate C was
discounted.
NBN Co investigated the potential for
a new facility to be located in the
road reserve of Davis Road. The
portion of the road reserve is
currently unimproved vegetated land
and located south of previously
disturbed area that contains aerial
power lines.
A 40 m monopole in this location
would provide reliable coverage to
the Cootharaba community, whilst
achieving ‘line of sight’ to other fixed

monopole
The proposed facility would be
appropriately located within a
portion of the road reserve that
makes use of existing access and
power infrastructure in conjunction
with mature vegetation screening.
Furthermore, given the site is
relatively flat and easy to access, it
was considered viable from a civil
construction perspective. For these
reasons, Candidate D was considered
the most viable option and has been
selected as the preferred candidate.
3.4 Co-location Opportunities
The Cootharaba area did not offer any possible co-location opportunities. Figure 3.2 below
illustrates the location of existing telecommunications facilities in the wider area.
As can be seen in Figure 3.2, the closest existing facility (RFNSA #4565007) is located ~5.7 km
north east of Candidate D at Boreen Point. The existing facility is a 30 m monopole in which NBN
Co infrastructure has already been accommodated to provide fixed wireless services to the Boreen
Point area. Therefore, this facility was not considered a viable co-location option as it is located
too far away to provide an additional NBN Co service to the Cootharaba area.
