Peregian Beach Surf Lifesaving Club (PBSLSC)
Proposal to Noosa Council re 10-year Lease at Peregian Surf Club Building
Dear Councillors,
The 3-year Permit to Occupy the Peregian Beach Surf Club building was awarded to Surf
Lifesaving Sunshine Coast (SLSSC) in 2019. This permit expires in August 2022 in the gap
between the end of the 2021/22 Surf Lifesaving season and the start of the 2022/23 season.
The intent at that time was to work with the local Community and with the Noosa Heads
Surf Lifesaving Club (NHSLSC) to seek to re-commence a locally-based, independent SLSC at
Peregian Beach over the 3-year period.
| am pleased to advise that good progress has been made and both SLSSC and Surf
Lifesaving Queensland (SLSQ) are satisfied to progress with the incorporation and affiliation
process of the new PBSLSC.
Please find attached a completed Community Tenure Renewal Application Form for a 10-
year lease over the Peregian Beach Surf Lifesaving Clubhouse. It should be noted that the
primary application is made in the name of PBSLSC which is expected to be formally
registered by the Office of Fair Trading in March 2022. However, | have also included a
completed application on behalf of SLSSC in the event that PBSLSC registration is not
completed in time. In this event, the lease documents should reflect the intent of SLSC to
assign the lease to PBSLSC at the earliest opportunity. The supporting documentation to the
Community Tenure Renewal Application Form are relevant to SLSSC.
Despite the significant challenges encountered over the first 2.5 years of the permit, there is
now growing confidence that the broader Peregian Beach and surrounds can sustain an
independent, community-based SLSC. Further, and despite initial community division at to
the nature and function of a new SLSC at Peregian Beach, we believe there is now
widespread support for the new Club, the process to get there and the structure of the new
entities. (Please see attached the most recent Community Updates from the Advisory
Board.)
The viability of the new SLSC will, however, rely on ongoing support from Noosa Council.
Specifically, this support will take the form of:
e Long term tenure at the Peregian Beach Surf Club site (this application attached is
seeking endorsement of a 10 year lease in the name of the new Peregian Beach SLSC
