6. WASTE MANAGEMENT ASSESSMENT
6.1 Potential Pollutants
The proposed Poultry meat farm has the potential to generate pollutants from the following
sources:
ACTIVITY POTENTIAL PROPOSED COMMENTS
POLLUTANTS TREATMENT
Roads, carparking Sediments, nutrients, Bioretention basin, The MUSIC model assesses the
heavy metals, bioretention swale, proposed treatment train for the
grassed swale, increase in area of hardstand,
pollutant generating areas and
demonstrates that pollutant load
reductions are achievable with the
proposed treatment train.
Poultry Shed Sediments and Roofwater reuse tanks Stormwater infiltration into the shed
nutrients will not occur. The 75mm thick
Poultry Litter absorbs the Poultry
urine and therefore no pollutants
from the Poultry will result from this
activity.
Composted Poultry Sediments and Wet Sediment and The bunded compost mounds will be
Litter Storage nutrients Bioretention Basin covered with tarps to ensure
minimum stormwater infiltration into
compost rows. The remaining
Bunded area will be clay capped to
minimise infiltration. The runoff from
these areas will be treated via a Wet
Sediment Basin and Bioretention
Basin
Composted Poultry Nutrients No treatment proposed Refer to Myriad International Nutrient
Litter use on Production and Fertilising
Avocado trees Requirement Report and Preliminary
Operational Plan
Dead Poultry Nutrients, bacteria, No treatment proposed Dead poultry will be taken off site for
appropriate disposal
