Dog Beach Sand Nourishment Project: Marine Plant Monitoring Plan 6
Monitoring Plan

* identification of dominant plant species, including native and exotic taxa
estimates of vegetation and species cover

* description of habitat features, including fisheries resources and tidal influence
* georeferencing of significant features.

2.7 Evaluation and Adaptive Management

Adaptive management measures will be developed if the monitoring identifies:

* direct disturbance to living marine plant communities associated with sand nourishment works

* a reduction in living marine plant condition and/or extent compared with pre-construction
vegetation communities (refer Section 2.2) within a year of completion of the works; and/or

* modified site conditions associated with sand nourishment works which may reduce the long-term
values or extent of marine plants, such as weeds and habitat modifications rendering conditions
no longer suitable for marine plant growth.

Adaptive management measures may include pest control and/or ground works to promote
conditions suitable for local marine plants. This plan will be updated as required to reflect adaptive
management measures implemented.

Any changes to the monitoring plan shall be made in consultation with and approved by DAF.

2.8 Corrective Actions
Corrective actions may be required if the monitoring results indicate works associated with the beach
nourishment project could have a long-term impact or significant residual impact on living marine
plants.
Significant residual impacts on marine plants include:
* Private works impacting on more than 17sqm of fish habitat; and
© there is a reduction in the extent of marine plants through removal, destruction or damage of
marine plants; or
© fragmentation or increased fragmentation of a marine ecological community; or
© adverse changes affecting survival of marine plants through modifying or destroying abiotic

(non-iving) factors (such as water, nutrients, or soil) necessary for a marine plant's survival;
or

© alteration in the species composition of marine plants in an ecological community, that causes
a decline or loss of functionally important species; or
© interference with the natural recovery of marine plant communities.

Site-specific corrective actions will be determined in consultation with, and to be approved by, DAF.
This monitoring plan will be updated to address remediation measures which may include:
