SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 AUGUST 2018
BCC
The key customers at BCC at Noosa Gymnastics Club, Noosa Montessori School and Little Seed
Theatre company (Noosa Montessori School sublets space to this group). No usage occurs
outside of these groups due to the permanent and exclusive nature of their usage agreements.
Visitation statistics are not maintained for BCC.
3. STAFFING
The J staff also oversee BCC’s operations and the small team does a great job of running both
centres in a highly efficient manner, particularly when compared to other similar venues with
larger teams. While the casual labour budget has been adapted to account for the ongoing
growth in activity, workload pressures remain high for key staff.
The recent resignation of the Venue Support Officer led to recruitment for this position and the
new team member will commence in early August. Prior to recruiting for the role, job
responsibilities across the team were reviewed and tweaked to achieve optimal outcomes for all
parties.
4. SYSTEMS & PROCESSES AND OTHER MATTERS
The J
There is a desire to review the current ticketing system used at The J but current staff capacity
issues have prevented this from occurring. The team is hopeful of completing the review at
some point in 2018/19.
As the venue gets busier, pressure on storage space continues to grow. The team have
identified an opportunity to expand underdeck storage and works to facilitate this have
commenced.
Additional AV equipment ($30k worth) was purchased through the capital works program and
one more tranche of capital works funding in 2018/19 will complete the current phase of
equipment renewal.
The team have spent some time researching vertical mast lift systems with the view to
purchasing one in order to improve WHS levels for tech staff. A small and manoeuvrable lift
would remove the need for ladders for tech staff when re-rigging AV set-ups on stage. The use
of a platform ladder has been trialled and while safer than a traditional ladder, it is still a fairly
clumsy solution. Further investigation of a vertical mast lift will be conducted in conjunction with
Procurement and Fleet.
Discussions continue with Noosa FM regarding their development of a strategy for a stable and
viable future. Noosa’s FM’s inability to meet current lease terms is also being discussed as part
of the broader conversation.
The existing usage MoU with Hillsong Church expired on 30 June 2018. An initial meeting
regarding the extension of the MoU has been held and it is expected that a new MoU will be
entered into under similar terms. Hillsong value usage of The J on a Sunday and from The J’s
perspective it provides a stable and predictable revenue stream on a day of the week where
similar facilities are traditionally underutilised.
Further works have occurred on the rear deck to stabilise its condition and ensure its surface
continues to deliver an appropriate level of slip resistance. Fresh non-slip tape has been
applied to the areas of the deck most exposed to wet weather.
