SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 AUGUST 2018
BCC
Extension works to the Main Hall have been completed via funding provided by Noosa
Gymnastics Club and the state government. The project went well however now faces a hurdle
before final building certification can be provided.
The incoming water pressure for the building’s fire system is insufficient to feed the onsite
booster pump and it is now proposed that large water storage tanks will be required to supply
this pump. Final designs have not yet been completed however the cost of rectifying the issue
is expected to be approximately $80k. Discussions continue between the Club and Council
about the best way to resolve this issue, both practically and financially.
FUTURE DIRECTION
The J
There has been a clear alignment between the improved performance of The J and the
recommendations of The J’s 3-year business plan. Staff will review the business plan in the
coming year with a view to developing a new 5-year plan to present to Council in 2019.
Regular reviews and updates of operational systems and processes remain ongoing and will
continue with reference to service review and business plan recommendations and objectives.
Ongoing liaison with Noosa FM to monitor and review their operational viability.
Further promotion of the fact The J now boasts a 402-seat theatre/auditorium and an
additional meeting space. This has proved to be a popular feature with show promoters
and has helped to boost booking levels.
Further consideration of future capital works funding and review of The J’s technical
capacity over the next 3 to 5 years. It is expected that the rear deck will require rebuilding
over the next few years and longer-term the team would like to consider the possibility of
more off-stage storage and an increased greenroom space.
The J will investigate viable options for moving toward minimising their plastic footprint and
adhering to the Plastic Free Noosa priority actions. This will be done in conjunction with
Council’s internal working group tasked with looking at how Council as a whole can take
proactive steps in this space.
BCC
Council representatives continue to work with the Noosa Gymnastic Club’s Project Control
Group to finalise the expansion of the Main Hall.
Ongoing liaison with Noosa Montessori School to monitor their development and possible
future expansion.
