Appendix B - Terrestrial Ecology Assessment
PO4 AO4.1
Development provides for effective measures during Vegetation is protected from disturbance or damage from
construction and operation to protect ecological values construction and operation activities by:
including:
1. clearly marking trees to be retained with flagging
1. avoiding disturbance to or clearing of tape;
vegetation in and within the vicinity of the 2. installing protective fencing around the dripline of the
site; vegetation and avoid filling and excavating in these
2. managing habitat disturbance and physical fenced areas;
harm to fauna from noise, vibration, dust, 3. ensuring stockpiling, storage and vehicle parking
light, dewatering or excavating; and occurs outside the identified vegetation areas; and
3. avoiding clearing in areas where erosion or 4. using low impact construction techniques around
slippage could occur. vegetation.
AO4.2
Vegetation which is capable of forming or contributing to a
buffer between different land uses or a buffer against pollution,
light spillage or noise is retained.
AO4.3
Lighting associated with development:
1. does not contribute an unacceptable level of
illuminance (greater than 1 lux) for light sensitive
species within or at the boundary of an ecologically
important area; and
2. does not contribute to an unacceptable level of
illuminance on landward horizons along coastal areas
and known marine turtle nesting beaches.
AO4.4
Clearing of vegetation does not involve clearing that may cause
or contribute to hillslope erosion, bank erosion, or slippage.
Project Outcome:
Trees to be retained will be marked for retention and the area identified as a “no-go” zone.
A VMP would be an expected condition of approval.
An arborist could be engaged to manage works near trees for retention.
The bushland patch to be retained would serve as a buffer to the consolidated bushland north and east of
the road.
Lighting to be directed away from the bushland could be a condition of approval (note current tennis court
lights turn down onto court).
The subject land is not on steep land and, if necessary, erosion control measures would assist with any
erosion issues.
