Connectivity
PO5 AO5
Development is designed and operated to maintain and Development is designed and operated to maintain
enhance connectivity between and across ecologically ecological linkages and maximise opportunity for
important areas and connecting habitat and support connectivity and the movement of fauna by:
unimpeded and safe movement of terrestrial and aquatic
fauna. 1. ensuring protection of wildlife refuges;
2. maintaining vegetation in patches of the greatest
possible size and within the smallest possible
edge-to-area ratio;
3. enhancing connectivity through planting and
rehabilitation works, including across property
boundaries, to areas of national park, state forest
or reserve;
4. avoiding the creation of physical barriers and
safety hazards (such as roads, pedestrian access
and instream structures) along and within the
ecological linkage;
5. providing mitigation measures such as wildlife
movement infrastructure, fauna exclusion and
directional fencing, underpasses/overpasses and
traffic calming devices, signage and lighting; and
6. where offsets are necessary, delivering offsets that
support and enhance ecological linkages.
Project Outcome:
Not Applicable, but -
In any event, the subject land is not part of any ecological linkage.
The bushland patch is small and currently subjected to edge effects and is fenced from surrounding areas.
The retained and landscaped vegetation will remain available to mobile fauna (e.g. birds and possums), - no
change to current availability.
It is proposed to offset the few koala feed trees to be removed. This could be a condition of approval. While
a financial offset has been calculated, it may be possible to plant replacement trees elsewhere in the local
landscape (L.confertus proposed in parts of the landscaped areas).
