SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 6 AUGUST 2019
The provision of capital funding for the renewal of major AV components has allowed The J
to invest heavily in brand new, state-of-the-art equipment to replace ageing and broken
equipment. The centre has recently installed a $170k PA system and a full stage data
projector worth $25k. A new mixing desk will also be added shortly and these
enhancements have gone a long way to ensuring The J will be a market-leading venue well
into the future.
Solar panels have been installed at The J with considerable energy efficiency and savings
achieved (nearly $17k of savings seen against budget in 2018/19).
BCC
Certification of Noosa Gymnastics’ extension to the Main Hall, including additional works to
fire tanks, has been finalised with the new section now in full use.
FUTURE DIRECTION
The J
There is a desire to review a number of systems used at The J, specifically both the
booking and ticketing systems. Staff capacity issues have prevented this from occurring to
date, however, the hope is that this will occur in 2019/20.
Staff will review the business plan in the coming year with a view to developing a new 5-
year plan to present to Council in 2020.
Planned capital works in 2019/20 include major repairs to the rear lower deck and
associated boardwalk, completion of under-ramp storage area, installation of a loading
dock lifting platform and addition of a deck ‘bridge’ to allow the vertical mast lift to access
the loading dock lifting platform and in turn be able to be used on stage by tech staff
(currently it can only access the theatre floor and deck areas).
Ongoing liaison with Noosa FM to monitor and review their onsite operations and lease
compliance.
BCC
Ongoing liaison with all users of the BCC, namely Noosa Gymnastics Club, Noosa
Montessori School and Little Seed Theatre Company.
Review and prioritise ongoing maintenance requirements, especially given the age and
condition of parts of the facility.
Previous Council Consideration
Ordinary Meeting 21 March 2019 Item 10, Page 9
That Council note the report by The J & Bicentennial Community Centre Coordinator to the
Services & Organisation Committee meeting dated 12 March 2019, providing an update on the
activities of The J and Bicentennial Community Centre for the period 1 July 2018 to 31 December
2018.
Finance
Refer to Section 1 of this report.
Risks & Opportunities
Installation of additional storage solutions, the loading dock lifting platform, and being able to get
the vertical mast lift onto the stage will all make The J a safer venue for staff, users and patrons
alike. This report does not propose any new actions or activities in addition to these matters
which would shift risks or opportunities beyond the current levels encountered as part of the day-
to-day operations of the facilities.
