INFRASTRUCTURE & SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 3 FEBRUARY 2015
Some of the additional feedback provided by respondents included:
• Great transport option, we are staying at Sunshine Beach and probably wouldn't have
come to Hastings St if the bus option was not available. Definitely an incentive to beat
the crazy traffic.
• A wonderful service! Made a total difference to my personal options on my holiday!
• Could do with a shuttle for Noosa Junction to Noosa Heads to ease local services.
Thank-you
• Excellent idea as a goodwill gesture to provide free buses over the holiday period. The
passenger assist employee was very approachable, helpful, professional and polite,
since it is tricky to establish which services are free, the additional assistance was
essential. Thank-you.
• I think it is good that Noosa Shire have provided the Free buses, it's just a shame that
SCC doesn't feel the same because it is needed just as much for the rest of the coast as
much as here in Noosa
• I think the free buses are a great idea and I commend Noosa Council on having them. I
think it is a disappointment that the Sunshine Coast Council have discontinued them.
• It is an excellent initiative for the peak holiday seasons and should be continued. If
extended it would benefit most on weekends.
• It needs to be clearly advertised the times the free holiday buses apply. We had a lovely
walk with relatives from abroad through the national park from sunshine beach to Noosa
only to find out after a nice meal that the free buses had stopped running at 6pm so had
to pay for 7 people. If I'd had known that it would have been cheaper to drive. I thought
the bus drivers were very polite as once I knew about the times of the buses we used the
service a few times to avoid traffic congestion
• Is it all affordable, or do we rate payers have our rates increased to fund the tourists!
6. Noosa Heads Lions Park Car Park
The Noosa Heads Lions Park was to be used as a car park from 26 December 2014 – 11
January 2015 but was closed for four days during this period due to wet weather as such the
park was used for 13 of the possible 17 days. Vehicles are charged a flat rate of $10. The
car park was managed by the Tewantin Noosa Lions Club with assistance from Council’s
Works Superintendent, Fred Spinks. There were a total of 4,437 cars with a daily average of
341 vehicles. This is a slight increase from 2013/14 and was attributed to the increase in
demand in the usually quitter mid-week days. The total income generated from the car park
was $44,370 with 60% of the parking revenue going to the Tewantin Noosa Heads Lions
Club. The remaining revenue is used to fund traffic control and park refurbishment.
7. Traffic Control
Two traffic control officers were employed from 26 December 2014 to 11 January 2015, from
9.30am to 3.00pm each day to assist with traffic and pedestrian movement. The total cost of
the traffic control staff was $5,790 (excl GST). This was paid for by revenue raised from the
Noosa Heads Lions Park car park.
Traffic was deemed to be particularly heavy this year, in previous years traffic control was
not required all day.
