SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 7 SEPTEMBER 2021
3. STAFFING
NLC has one full-time staff member (NLC Coordinator) and approximately 15 casual staff.
Staff have worked well together throughout the year, ensuring Covid-19 systems and requirements
are upheld and have liaised closely with patrons and clients on the implications of the various
restrictions and lockdowns. Staff have been particularly grateful for the support Council has shown
them via the provision of pandemic leave and redeployment opportunities throughout Covid
shutdowns.
There are no further staffing issues of significance to report.
4. SYSTEMS, PROCESSES AND OTHER MATTERS
With the assistance of Council’s Covid-19 Taskforce and the Queensland Ambulance
Service, NLC was activated as a temporary Covid-19 testing site in January for just under
two weeks. While the stadium was used for the entry and exit of participants being tested,
the facility was able to continue running some non-stadium programs during this time.
To improve awareness of NLC all year round, a promotional video was filmed, highlighting
the multiple services NLC provides for the community. The videos will be uploaded on the
website and used for social media campaigns in the near future.
In an effort to improve lighting in the car parks and pathways throughout the Wallace Park
Precinct, an upgrade of the LED lights throughout the precinct is in progress. Not only will
the improved lighting benefit our participants who attend evening programs, it will also
provide extra security and comfort to evacuees when the facility is utilised for emergency
evacuation purposes. Funding has been secured through the 2019 Queensland Bushfires –
DRFA Category D funding program.
Completion of a number of planned maintenance projects including:
- Installation of covers over stadium exhaust fans to prevent water ingress onto stadium
floors, particularly during wild weather events.
- Upgrade of ageing and faulty stadium scoreboard in Court 2.
An upgrade to the upstairs meeting room was also completed, which included new carpet,
bench, sink and cupboards and a more energy efficient air conditioning system.
5. FUTURE DIRECTION
Safe management of the facility in line with Covid-19 restrictions and rebuilding of the
centre’s customer and revenue base.
Continue to monitor and review attendance numbers for NLC programs to ensure programs
continue to represent a viable ongoing offering.
Upgrade of faulting scoreboard on Court 1.
Complete strategic planning for the facility, including the development of a ‘current state of
affairs’ report which will look to kick-start the thinking around the long-term development of
the centre.
Continued enhancements to the centre’s aesthetics.
Upgrade of current Links centre management software to allow for enhanced online
offerings, as well as a more reliable in-house experience for staff.
A review of the current usage arrangements with long-term hirers.
Previous Council Consideration
