EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Council recognises that community engagement is a vital part of effective democracy and that
community based Council Meetings provide a good opportunity for this. This report recommends
that the Ordinary Meeting scheduled for 21 August 2025 be amended to start at 5pm at the Kin Kin
Memorial School of Arts Hall. This will provide an opportunity for the local community to gain an
insight into the Council decision making process and to meet Councillors and senior staff to discuss
Council issues.
RECOMMENDATION
That Council
A. Note the report by the Chief Executive Officer to the Services and Organisation Committee
Meeting dated 8 July 2025 regarding the 21 August 2025 Ordinary Meeting and
B. Pursuant to Section 257(3)(b) of the Local Government Regulation 2012, resolve to
1. Change the commencement time of the Ordinary Meeting dated 21 August 2025 from 10am
to start at 5pm; and
2. Change the venue for the meeting to Kin Kin Memorial School of Arts Hall, Main St Kin Kin;
C. Request that the Chief Executive Officer ensure suitable advertising is undertaken to promote
this community based Council Meeting; and
D. Note that Council plan to livestream the meetings and place a copy of the recording on Council's
website.
REPORT
1. Holding Council meetings in community locations
The Mayor and Councillors recognise that community engagement is a vital part of effective
democracy and that community based Council meetings provide an opportunity for local
communities to meet with the Mayor and Councillors and discuss local issues. Since 2014 Council
generally held one or two Ordinary Meetings at various community locations throughout each year.
Meetings were held in:
• Pomona and Peregian Beach – 2014;
• Cooran and Noosaville – 2015;
• Cooroy – 2016;
• Boreen Point and Sunshine Beach – 2017;
• Kin Kin and Pomona – 2018;
