PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING REPORT 17 JUNE 2014

 Non-Motorised Watercraft
Lake Macdonald should be excluded from the introduction of boat permit fees as:
       o the lake is small,
o boat usage is limited to predominantly local residents using non-motorised watercraft,
       o      due to the well-established ban on motorised watercraft enforcement is not an issue;
o those fishing on the lake already pay a fishing permit fee.
 Fishing
As primary custodian of the water resources Seqwater needs to take a leading role in
ongoing efforts to re-establish wild populations of Cod. Additionally support is required from
Seqwater for the fish hatchery to contribute to the breeding of other native fish species for
       both fishing and conservation outcomes.
 Trails:
o A sealed 2m wide pathway linking the toilets at Kookaburra Park and Lake Macdonald
              Park is required.
o Recognition of the Noosa Bird Trail site at Jabiru Park which includes the Fearnley Bird
Hide is required with a note that it is a Council asset.
o Maintenance on the pathway between the Lake Macdonald Park picnic area and the
              fishing platform is required.
o It would be desirable to provide a path linking the lake to the trail head at Swift drive
              Cooroy.
 Dogs
Dogs should continue to be permitted on leashes as no complaints have been received in this
       regard.
 Opening Hours
The introduction of varied hours to better reflect the summer and winter months is supported.
It is requested consideration be given to the introduction of the following hours to allow users
to enjoy the sun rise: October-April 5.00am-6.30pm, May – September 6.00am-5.30pm
 Environment
o All of the native vegetation areas around the lake contribute to habitat for a wide range
              of flora and fauna specifies.
o Investigate the status of studies being undertaken by the CSIRO regarding biological
              controls for Cabomba caroliniana
o Request Seqwater take a lead role in facilitating the reformation and operation of the
              Lake Macdonald Catchment Care Group.
