Latest State bushfire hazard mapping fails to designate any of the foredune complex as BPA, despite
allocating significant potential fuel values to the regional ecosystem present. At the same time it maps the
Burgess Creek watercourse as BPA. These inconsistencies indicate less accurate mapping by State than by
Council mapping in this instance.
3.2 Vegetation Assessment, Slope and Separation Distances from Proposed
Development
Figure 4 shows the intact areas of unmanaged vegetation which could potentially support fire. The fuel areas
assessed (Areas 1 to 4) are analysed in Sections 3.2 – 3.5. They are modelled as low Forest in Section 6, with
average slope beneath vegetation being classified taken as 11˚ Downslope for Areas 2 – 4 and 6˚ Downslope
for Area 1.
Figure 4. Main intact vegetation areas related the proposed development.
Section 6 objectively calculates and determines the potential nature and severity of bushfire attack more
thoroughly. This serves as a basis for determining the construction and other bushfire protection measures
outlined in this BAL Assessment.
Fuel assessments were determined using the Overall Fuel Hazard Assessment - DSE Victoria (Oct 2010).
