Approved Plan - Landscape Specification prepared by URBIS - OPW24/0110
16. PLANTING 16.1. GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS Quality All plants 45L and over are to conform to NATSPEC's ‘Specifying Trees - a guide to assessment of tree quality’, Second Edition 2003 by Ross Clark. The Contractor is to supply the Landscape Architect with a written compliance certificate from a qualified Arborist. All plants are to be vigorous and appropriately acclimatised with a rootball that is full but not restrained. The root ball and canopy of all plants are to be balanced and the stem / trunk sufficiently developed so that the plants stay upright without staking and/or guying. The Contractor must inspect plants / transplants immediately after being unloaded to check quantity, quality, vigour, health, crown balance (+/ - 20% from stem axis) and symmetry, crown density, pests (< 10% of foliage), growth uniformity (max. internode <1.2 x shortest internode), included bark, sun scald, root division / direction (>90% down and / or outwards) and occupancy (> 90% rootball intact when removed from container) and rootball soil volume. Sampling Partial destructive sampling as outlined in NATSPEC's "Specifying Trees - a guide to assessment of tree quality" is likely to be carried out on some trees and plants. Trees and plants that fail may cause entire batches of trees and plants to be rejected. Plant Substitutions Any potential species substitutions or changes to nominated container or canopy sizes are to be noted in the tender as potential alternatives. Specified tree species and size to be provided as the submitted tender. Palm Heights Palm heights are measured from the rootball surface to the base of the frond shaft for smooth trunk palms such as Bangalow, Alexander and Royal Palms. Heights are measured to the base of the lowest fronds (after any required frond pruning / removal) for rough trunk palms such as Canary Island Date Palms, Livistonas and Washingtonias. Palm heights are never measured to the tip of the fronds. Installation Plants are to be installed in the locations shown on the planting plan. The tops of root balls of plants 45L and over are to be level with or up to 50mm higher than the surrounding soil level. Create watering "saucers" around all plants from containers larger than 5 litres (ie 200mm diameter). Do not pile up mulch against the base of the plant stem/trunk.
