4.        Planning Framework
The planning framework in Queensland is supported by the Planning Act 2016 which outlines the plan-
making system that guides strategic planning and development assessment. In relation to coastal
development there are specific requirements that are discussed in the following sections.
Planning Act 2016

4.1.     Planning Act 2016
The Planning Act 2016 details the planning and development approval framework for Queensland. In
relation to coastal development the assessment triggers are based on the coastal management district and
erosion prone area.
         4.1.1. Coastal Management Mapping
The Coastal Protection and Management Act 1995 provides for the declaration of erosion prone areas,
coastal management districts and coastal building lines, which are used as triggers for development
approvals under the Planning Act 2016.

The site is located within two coastal management mapping layers prepared by the Department of
Environment, Science and Innovation. These mapping layers are:
     •   Coastal management district (see Figure 4-1); and,
     •   Coastal area - erosion prone area (see Figure 4-2).
