8.        Conclusion
A detailed coastal engineering assessment has been undertaken to assess the vulnerability to erosion of
the beach adjacent to 33 Ross Crescent, Sunshine Beach, Noosa Shire. The methodology adopted for this
report is based on best practice and is appropriate for risk assessment in relation to the proposed
development and the coastal hazard associated with beach erosion for the section of beach in the vicinity
of 33 Ross Crescent, Sunshine Beach. We recommend that the EPA width (85m) calculated above be
adopted for the current development assessment.

This assessment has found that the proposed house is unlikely to be impacted by subject to erosion from
the sea during the expected asset lifespan (i.e. 60 years for a residential house) based on an extreme event
described in Table 6-2.

Advice of a Geotechnical Engineer will be required to inform the foundation design of the house to
accommodate future site conditions and implement the management measures in the Landslide Risk
Management Manual (Australian Geomechanics, 2007) where suitable (refer to Figure 6-8 for the potential
erosion cut profile).

Construction of the proposed house at 33 Ross Crescent, Sunshine Beach as shown in Appendix A, with
appropriate foundation design, would therefore not adversely impact coastal processes and would not affect
the future coastal management options for this section of Sunshine Beach. The proposed development is
therefore considered to comply with Performance Outcomes 1 and 2 of the Coastal Protection and Scenic
Amenity Overlay Code (Noosa Plan 2020) as the development:

     1. allows for natural fluctuations of the coast and foreshores to occur, including allowance of climate
        change;
     2. maintain dune crest heights and minimise and mitigate the risk to development from wave
        overtopping and storm tide inundation; and,
     3. maintains coastal ecosystems and natural features, to assist in protecting and buffering
        communities and infrastructure from sea-level rise and coastal inundation impacts.
