REPORT
1. Local Disaster Management Plan
It is a requirement of the Disaster Management Act 2003 (the Act) that a local government
develops a Local Disaster Management Plan (the Plan) to assist with effective disaster
management for its area. It is also a requirement of the Act that a local government for the area
review, or renew, its Plan when considered appropriate.
The annual assessment of the 2016/2017 Plan against the Emergency Management Assurance
Framework (EMAF) was conducted on 11 September 2017. It is timely, therefore, for Council to
adopt a revised Plan.
This year the review of the Plan has focused on:
Acknowledgement of and alignment with the EMAF;
Updating references to relevant legislation;
Identifying lead agencies for response to risk hazards;
Updating list of State agency support during emergencies to ensure consistency with the
State Plan;
Updating the Plan with 2016 Census data for the Noosa Shire; and
Updating to include the risk reduction strategies undertaken during 2016/2017.
