REPORT
1. Legislative authority to make and amend local laws
By virtue of s28 of the Local Government Act 2009, a local government may make and enforce
any local law that is necessary or convenient for the good rule and local government of its local
government area. However, this authority has a number of exceptions and limitations, which are
further prescribed by the Act.
Council’s current suite of local laws became effective on 1 July 2015. These local laws are based
on the model local laws as drafted by the State Government and notified by way of Government
Gazette on 25 June 2010.
