SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 10 OCTOBER 2017
Consultation
External Consultation - Community & Stakeholder
Staff have discussed the Transport Strategy with the Tewantin-Noosa Lions Club and the need to
discourage vehicles (not people) entering the Hastings Street precinct during the busy holiday
period by increasing the parking fee from $10 to $20 per vehicle. It is proposed that the
Tewantin-Noosa Lions Club continue to receive the same income as they did under the $10
arrangement ($3 per vehicle) but with a slight increase ($3.55 per vehicle) under the $20
arrangement. The Lions Club have requested this slight increase as they will have to increase
insurance costs for holding larger sums of cash and will need to invest in an electronic payment
method due to people carrying less cash.
The Tewantin-Noosa Lions Club share the income 55% / 45% with the Cooroy Camphor Laurel
group who assist with parking vehicles.
Item Amount
GST $1.82
Tewantin-Noosa Lions Club $6.45
(35.5% after GST)
Noosa Council $11.73
(64.45% after GST)
Total $20.00
Feedback from TransLink
Noosa Council staff requested free travel on route 620 (Noosa Heads – Maroochydore servicing
Castaways, Marcus Beach, Peregian Beach etc.) to those passengers boarding and alighting
within Noosa Shire only. TransLink’s response was that unfortunately TransLink’s existing
ticketing system technology is not able to be programmed to only charge a fare for a portion of a
journey.
Should Noosa Council decide to offer the free holiday bus promotion on route 620, the expected
loss of revenue for this service would need to include the entire journey and is estimated to be
$27,465. As such, the total loss of revenue to provide free travel on routes 620, 626, 627, 628,
629, 632 and 630 would be $63,454 (Sunshine Coast Council are no longer offering the Free
Holiday Bus service).
