REPORT
The purpose of this report is to provide an update on progress to date and seek endorsement for
the establishment of a dedicated internal Working Group and a separate External Reference
Group for the remaining duration of the Cooroy Hinterland Playground project.
1. Background
Noosa Council envisaged as part of the Cooroy Lower Mill site redevelopment, that a playground
would be placed on the southern bank of Cooroy Creek. In 2017, an initial budget was set and
work commenced on developing ideas and concepts for the playground, along with research into
nature-based playgrounds to align with Noosa Council’s theme of ‘Different by Nature’. The
2018/19 budget has been allocated and allows for the completion of design and commencement
of construction activities. The project is listed in the 2018/19 Branch Plan, the updated 2017 –
2037 Corporate Plan and is considered a ‘signature’ project for Council to deliver by December
2019 in the 5-year Capital Works Program.
2. Design
The project scope includes the design and delivery of a new nature-based, inclusive playground
to the open park bounded by Maple Street, Cooroy Creek and Marara Street. The playground
has been scoped to provide an iconic destination for Noosa Shire residents and tourists. The
playground will include associated facilities such as toilets, seating areas, covered picnic shelters
