REPORT
At Council’s Ordinary Meeting held on 16 June 2022, a Notified Motion was submitted by Cr
Lorentson, and it was resolved for the CEO to provide an update at a future meeting on a
range of management issues including:
erosion management of Burgess Creek mouth;
management of outflows and water quality from the Wastewater Treatment Plant
discharging into Burgess Creek;
stormwater management and infrastructure for the Burgess Creek Sub-catchment;
downstream erosion caused to dunes and beaches as a result of stormwater discharge
and wastewater flows; and
funding options and opportunities for catchment and coastal management and
infrastructure solutions.
Each of these matters as per the notified motion are addressed in turn below.
Actions to be undertaken by Council to manage the Burgess Creek Mouth, including
erosion management
The Burgess Creek catchment is a small coastal creek catchment that discharges directly
into the Coral Sea at Sunshine Beach. Covering roughly 545 hectares, it drains from the back
of residential developments in Noosa Head, through bushland and community facilities near
Eenie Creek Road, and then through a Council-managed Bushland Reserve and National
Park.
