Budget Commentary
The Waste Section budget report for the period shows that revenue was slightly above estimates
and expenditure was slightly below estimates. This provided an operating surplus $327,353
better than predicted.
Capital Works
There are three Capital Works Projects approved for 2018/19:
Concept design of landfill waste cell
The Waste Section has commissioned ATC Williams as the consulting engineers to
produce the concept design of the future Cell (2.3). The design encompasses
interconnection to the groundwater lowering system, interconnection to the leachate
collection system of Cell 2.1, dirty water drainage system and clean water drainage system.
The concept design is on schedule and will feed into plans for a detailed design phase and
landfill master planning scheduled for the next financial year.
Design, supply and construction of the waste education building, Reviva
In December 2018 a contract was awarded to Southern Cross Sheds for the design, supply
and construction of the Waste Education Building at Reviva. Construction commenced in
mid-January 2019 and has recently been completed. Work on the internal fit out has been
budgeted for over the next few months. The finishing touches should be completed in the
2019/20 financial year.
Laying of Geofabric in Noosa Landfill Cell 2.2
The fabric is required to protect the drainage layer in the second half of Cell 2.2. before it
receives waste in the next few months. The fabric has been purchased and work on laying
it will commence in the next two months as waste is disposed of in that part of the cell.
The Waste Section has submitted Project Briefs for five capital works projects in the 2019/20
financial year. These are currently subject to the budget review and approval process.
