PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 15 SEPTEMBER 2015
Issues Comments
Businesses in this area struggle with the enormous rents.
Many work very hard and lose a lot of money, if not
everything. Council should be monitoring this rather than
adding to the hardship by allowing ever continuing
expansion where it is not needed
The Noosa Civic expansion proposal fails to justify its
conflict with the Noosa Planning Scheme and is unable to
prove an overriding need in the public interest.
Smaller scale shopping precincts with a village atmosphere
and farmers markets etc are more in keeping with the intent
of the locality plans described in the Noosa Plan.
The Shire was and remains well served with adequate
commercial precincts at Tewantin, Noosaville, Noosa
Junction, Noosa Heads, Sunshine Beach and Peregian
which are all still underdeveloped and give residents the
opportunity to have services close to where they live.
Retail shopping is not a major on Noosa’s older and aging
population spending agenda, whereas there is increasing
community demand for health, age care and speciality
services.
The applicant failed to undertake any adequate long term
needs analysis based on emerging trends and desired

R&D facilities.

it has regained to a large degree its past vibrancy and soul
– important area for tourists and locals.
Junction has already suffered and would be worse off if
Target left.
Noosa, Tewantin and Noosaville don’t need more shops
and restaurants. To make this a fair competitive
environment, Noosa council must protect local business
owners and cap these developments owned by companies
that are not local.
Small businesses stand little chance of surviving.
Consider the “critical factor” which is the Noosa Image. Any
proposed development should be judged on the effect that
it would have upon that critical billion dollar image. The
proposed development at Civic fails that test because the
“costs” of the project to the Noosa Image exceed the
Benefits. There are already many vacant speciality shops
sites and a substantial increase in main street vacancies
would change the over-all appearance from prosperous to
“run-down” which would severely prejudice the Image and
the ambience that is so critical for the ongoing prosperity of
