PLANNING & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 15 SEPTEMBER 2015

Nil.

Finance & Risk

There is currently no budget allocation for this project in the 2015-16 financial year. A new initiative
was submitted as part of the 2015/16 budget process to support the development of an overall
Sustainability Plan, however it was deferred as it was considered to be in the very early stages of
development and no specific actions had been identified. A decision was made to develop a more
targeted Carbon Reduction and Energy Efficiency Plan rather than a full Sustainability Plan given
the current and intended plans need to be developed collaboratively across a number of Council
departments. Together with the sustainability principles which are under development, the
development of a targeted Carbon Reduction and Energy Efficiency Plan will provide a better
outcome for Council than having a more generalised Sustainability Plan.

Actions associated with the development of a Carbon Reduction and Energy Efficiency Plan
include facilitation of two community workshops ($4,000), venue hire, materials, project support
($1,000) and any additional research and/or information that may be identified during the process
of approximately $10,000. The total project cost is expected to be a maximum of $15,000.

Cost benefit analyses will be carried out for individual actions arising from the completed Carbon
Reduction and Energy Efficiency Plan, however the final decision regarding implementation of
individual initiatives will need to be made by Council.
