Landscape Specification
CONTENTS Inspections During construction a number of holding points shall be established to allow for inspection and approval before progressing to the next stage of construction. Any surface which fails to match the agreed sample for colour, aggregate distribution, and tonal range shall be repaired /replaced to the Landscape Architect’s approval. Minor imperfections shall be repaired by filling with a cement based coloured slurry and reground to ensure surface appearance is consistent. The below show the minimum required inspections: • Before starting works for approval for test panels • Before placing of concrete to trenches and formwork • Before applying coatings, chemical stains or sealers • At completion Any works which has any of the following defects has to be completely replaced prior to the Date of Practical Completion: • Surface stains • Surface crazing or cracking. • Surfaces that have a deviation from a 3-metre straightedge greater than 3mm. • Off-form surfaces that show any honeycombing or bubbles to the surface. • Any concrete that fails to achieve required strength. • Patching of defects in concrete will not be permitted. Formwork Design and construct formwork so that the concrete, when cast in the forms will have the dimensions, shape, profile, location, and surface finish as specified in this specification. Make provision for dimensional changes, deflections, and cambers resulting from the application of applied loads, temperature changes and concrete shrinkage and creep. Tolerances of the concrete when stripped will be in accordance with the appropriate Clause of AS 3610. Use formworks in accordance to AS 3610 minimum acceptable quality of surface for various classes of surface finish. Strip formwork in accordance with the recommendations of AS 3610, Table: "Recommended Minimum Stripping Times". If construction loads greater than the live load shown on the drawings are placed on the structure, fix emergency shoring, and tomming to the satisfaction of the Superintendent. If formwork fails to meet the requirements of this specification, it may be rejected along with any concrete which has been cast in it. In that case, remove the rejected concrete, form construction joints, reconstruct the formwork, and recast the concrete. Choose formwork materials to meet the requirements of surface finish, tolerances, load capacity, absorbency, watertightness and stability. Use same formwork type throughout the entire works to avoid differences in water-cement ratio. Confirm suitability of formwork for the required surface finish quality with the manufacturer. Consider new formworks panel as each will change water absorbency with re-use or use same ‘old’ formworks panels next to each other to achieve consistency. Inspect works prior to placing reinforcement to identify form panels which needs replacement in order to achieve the quality of finish specified. If new boards need to be primed, consider different results of variable absorbency of boards. Formworks shall be constructed with tight joints and no gaps at corners or edges. Ensure that the joints remain tight during placement. Use the same form release agent throughout the project. Where not detailed form 5mm fillets, on the surface of all corners and angles.
