Landscape Specification
CONTENTS Concrete Testing Perform concrete tests in accordance with AS 1012 (all parts) ‘Methods of Testing Concrete’ or subsequent amendment. The methods and frequency of sampling and the identification and testing of cylinders are to be in accordance with project control testing AS 3600 & AS 1379 (1997) ‘Specification and Supply of Concrete’. Tests to be carried out shall be as follows: • 28 day compressive strength tests; • On site slump tests (on the first batch of concrete) Concrete supply Ingredients, concrete mix, water-cement ratio, concrete strength and pigment quantities shall be kept consistent throughout the project. Ensure concrete is thoroughly mixed on site. Immediately before placing concrete in excavation, ensure that the excavation is free from water and fallen materials and that the sides of excavations are such that no material will fall into freshly placed concrete. Convey concrete from the mixer to the place of final position without delay and by means that will prevent segregation and loss of materials. Admixtures are to be approved by the Landscape Architect in writing prior to purchasing. If admixtures are approved, comply with AS 3600. Place concrete in compliance with AS 3600. Concrete Placement Secure reinforcement in place, remove surplus end of tie-twine, surplus nails and other extraneous metal objects in contact with the forms and make sure that expansion joint material, anchors, and other embedded items are in position. Fix cores and embedded items to prevent movement during concrete placing. In locating embedded items, do not cut or displace reinforcement, or cut hardened concrete For adjoining elements to be fixed to or supported on the concrete, provide for the required fixings. Where applicable provide for temporary support of the adjoining elements during construction of the concrete. Formworks to be cleaned of all debris immediately before placing of concrete. Remove water ponding to prevent differences in water-cement ratio between bottom and top of the element. The concrete shall be placed at a continuous rate and consistency for each section of the work. In walls, the placing rate shall be such that the lateral pressure assumed in the formwork design is not exceeded. The settlement in each layer shall be substantially complete before the next layer is placed. The Contractor shall take care to avoid the formation of cold joints. Do not insert fixings using explosive tools. Precast elements shall be a minimum grade of S32 (to AS 1379) placed by an appropriate means. The concrete shall be delivered to site with a slump of 80 - 100mm, or as recommended by the Engineer. Tolerances on Placement Maximum deviation from correct positions: • Embedded items generally: ± 10 mm. • Fasteners, including anchor bolts: ± 3 mm. • Anchor bolt groups for structural steel: To AS 4100. Compact concrete by mechanical vibration to the maximum practicable density, free of air or stone pockets. Concrete not compacted will be rejected. Inappropriate use of vibrators (e.g. by "travelling" concrete by use of vibrators) is not permitted and will cause immediate rejection of the concrete component. URBIS URB-SPC-LAN-P0025138 PAGE 17
