• the Noosa Shire Local Economic Development Plan, and
• the estimated impacts on economic output and employment during both the construction phase and
the subsequent operational phase of the facility
The key findings of the preliminary economic impact assessment are:
• The project contributes to Noosa’s ongoing strategic development of the tourism sector as a key
priority area.
• The project has clear economic benefits in both direct and flow-on employment terms.
o This is the case during the initial 8 months of construction during which 44 full time equivalent
jobs across diverse sector and roles can be expected to be supported.
o Furthermore, the economic impact modelling estimates that a further 11 full time equivalent
jobs across diverse sectors and occupations will be supported as a result of the ongoing
operations of the proposed hostel.
• The project is consistent with the strategic aspirations articled in the Noosa Shire Local Economic Plan,
to diversify Noosa’s economic base by supporting the development of smart industries that leverage off
the region’s competitive advantages in sectors like tourism.
• The project contributes to the ongoing reinforcement of Noosa’s brand positioning in the area of
tourism, and its general attractiveness as a tourism destination for a diverse cross-section of domestic
and international visitors.
Stormwater Management
The following extracts are taken from the Engineering Report prepared by a RPEQ from Tod Consulting Pty Ltd
(Appendix F). The disposal of the stormwater collected on the site will be dealt with in the following manners:
Site Stormwater
The existing building and concrete pavement areas on the site have a combined area of 875m2. In
addition to this there is over 1,080m2 of unsealed compacted gravel hardstand surrounding the existing
building.
Given the nature of this hardstand pavement we believe that, conservatively, 50% of this area can be
included in the impervious area of the existing site. As such the total impervious area for the existing
site is effectively 1,415m2.
The proposed development includes buildings and impervious (paved areas) totalling 1,433m2. Note
drying area on east side of building to be either permeable paving or turfed.
As there is only a minor increase in the impervious area we contend that on-site detention is not
necessary.
The quality of stormwater run-off is specifically addressed within section 4.3 of the Engineering
Report (Appendix F).
