Weddings to Noosa have been in steady decline since the fee increases for Wedding permits
began back in 2014, and funding to Tourism Noosa in support of the Wedding Industry was
redirected to other areas.
Weddings fill the gaps, mid-week, between festivals, and out of school holiday timeframes.
By reducing the fees, we increase the number of weddings — including our many mid-week
destination weddings, and our businesses and economy thrive.
COUNCIL FIGURES SHOW
Wedding Permits issued by council in 2016 436
Wedding Permits issued by council in 2019 353
436 — 353 = 83 Less Pernits Issued
STATISTICS FROM THE QUEENSLAND REGISTRY OF BIRTHS DEATHS AND
MARRIAGES SUBURB BY SUBURB —
show that in 2014 there were 826 weddings across the Noosa Shire, 2016 there were 714
weddings across the Noosa Shire, and in 2019 there were 640 weddings across the Noosa
Shire. These statistics are available by public search.
This amounts to 186 LESS weddings =
186 x $96000 = $17,865,000 per year, less to our economy.
COVID IMPACT
Wedding bookings for 2020 and through 2021 are showing a reduced number of wedding
guests. Our economy and small businesses would be greatly assisted by a reduction of all
wedding permit fees. The non- refundable aspect of wedding permit fees should it rain/ be
windy etc., is extremely off-putting to couples with a small wedding budget — which many now
have.
