GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 12 OCTOBER 2020
Risks & Opportunities
The post-implementation review which is being undertaken by ASA is an opportunity to rectify
the poor community engagement processes that occurred during the original consultation on
the flight paths during 2019. It provides the community with an opportunity to be genuinely
involved and to, hopefully, influence the outcome.
The proposal to consider community alternatives to the current flight paths is also an
opportunity to allow broader consideration of alternatives rather than just the proposed flight
paths which were the subject of ASA’s consultation in 2019.
The risk, of course, is that if flight paths are changed, there are likely to be new people
affected by aircraft noise as the flight paths need to go somewhere. The key for Council is to
ensure that the process is fair, robust and gives community members and community
organisations an opportunity to influence the final outcome.
