Business community

The business community survey was aimed at determining tourism’s impact on business’
prosperity, as well as business people’s views on tourism generally across Noosa. The survey
was distributed to all businesses through the Business Associations in Noosa. The number
of responses obtained in an overall sense was 176, and these were distributed as follows:

Questions included in the survey were grouped according to:
   • Business characteristics: such as industry sector, size of premises, turnover and
       employment;
   • Impact of tourism on the respondents’ business;
   • Impact of major events in Noosa on respondents’ business; and,
   • Positive and negative impacts associated with tourism for respondents’ businesses
       and Noosa generally.

In order to conduct meaningful statistical analyses, and ensure confidentiality, the business
locations were regrouped according to Coastal, Hinterland and Suburban areas. Those with
no location were also grouped separately. It is noted, however, that apart from the ‘Coast’
category, sample sizes are considered small. Significance tests using Cramers’ V measures
are relatively robust, even with small sample sizes. Nonetheless, output for categories other
than ‘Coast’ should be considered ‘insights’ as opposed to conclusive evidence.
