PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 11 DECEMBER 2018
The other significant factor that must be considered in deciding the location of any future coastal
protection works is the height of the dunes and the impracticality of placing protection structures
within the property boundary. The subject property has an elevation of approximately 20m AHD
based on supplied contour information (refer Figure 4-2). Arock seawall design for this site would
need detailed design. However, based on experience from similar sites in southeast Queensland the
design may have the following:
1 a face slope of 1 V:2H,
| toe level at approximately lowest astronomical tide level (i.e. -1.123m AHD for Noosa Head),
and
‘] crest level to allow for storm tide and wave conditions associated with a storm event (i.e.
approximately 5m AHD).
This would mean the seawall would have an overall height of approximately 6m and a width ofat
least 12m. The alignment of such a seawall will be also influenced by the elevation of the properties
along Seaview Terrace and the angle of repose of sand.
Sand has an angle of repose (i.e. stable slope angle) of approximately 35° from horizontal.
Considering the land elevation of 15m above the 5m AHDseawall crest a stable slope would require
a width of approximately 21m between the seawall and permanent development. It is therefore not
likely to be possible to locate coastal protection works within the property.
