Planning Economic Report MCU13/0087 (attachment to Email 4 of 5)
Section 6: Economic impact
This section outlines the potential economic benefits and impacts that can be
anticipated following the development of the proposed First Choice liquor store.
As previously noted in this report, the proposed hotel onsite will result in a net
reduction of hotel supply. As a result, there is not expected to be any negative
trading impacts for competing hotel facilities, however, benefits related to this
facility are considered.
6.1 Economic and social benefits
The development of the proposed First Choice liquor store is likely to result in a
range of economic impacts. From a trading point of view, some impacts are likely
to be experienced by some competitive facilities throughout the trade area, and
the likely extent of these trading impacts is considered further in the next sub-
section of this report. On the other side of the equation, development of the First
Choice liquor store will result in a significant range of economic benefits,
particularly for residents within the trade area. The key positive impacts will
include the following:
1. Noosa Heads Bowls Club site as a strong destination for retail liquor
• The development of a big box liquor store in Noosa Heads will benefit the local
community, as well as the region overall by providing residents with enhanced
choice, competition and convenience. Currently, the nearest big box retail
liquor store of this scale is Dan Murphy’s located in Noosaville approximately
3.2 kilometres from the site. Development of the First Choice liquor store will
provide additional service to residents, as well as the large tourist market in an
accessible location.
• Increased shopping choice, amenity and local convenience
